Break-even maths

How many films until your pass pays for itself?

Divide the monthly price of your pass by what one ticket would cost you without it, and round up. That is how many films a month it takes to break even. Every film after that is money saved.

At £12.50 or more a ticket, two films a month cover a pass priced up to £24.99.

Why I made this.

People track the books they read and the shows they finish. I wanted the same for the cinema, so I built it for my own membership first. A year of moviegoing laid out turned out to be worth looking at.

What is cinemoo?

cinemoo is a free film tracker for people who go to the cinema. You forward your Odeon booking confirmation emails to a private cinemoo address, and it logs each visit (the film, cinema, seat, format, and price) and turns your visits into cinema stats. If you have Odeon Limitless, it also shows what the pass saved you and whether it paid for itself each month. It runs in any browser and as an iPhone and iPad app.

How can I see how many films I’ve seen at Odeon?

Forward your booking confirmations to cinemoo, old ones included: select them in your inbox and forward them as attachments in one email. cinemoo counts every visit by year and by month, with your hours at the cinema, formats, and cinemas, and sorts out duplicates.

How many films a month make Odeon Limitless worth it?

How is cinemoo different from Letterboxd?

Letterboxd is a diary for every film you watch, anywhere, logged by hand. cinemoo keeps track of trips to the cinema, and builds that record from your booking confirmations, so it knows the cinema, seat, format, and price as well as the film, and can work out what a cinema pass saved you. The two work together: every visit links to the film on Letterboxd, and a CSV of films you already log elsewhere can be imported.

Is cinemoo affiliated with Odeon?

No. cinemoo is an independent project made in San Francisco by Renato Untalan. It is not affiliated with Odeon Cinemas or Odeon Limitless, and it never asks for your Odeon password.

Is there a cinemoo app?

Yes. cinemoo is free on the App Store for iPhone and iPad, and works in any browser at cinemoo.app. An Android app is in closed beta; you can ask for early access on this page.
